Appliance Care in the Monsoon: Protect Your Home Electronics

Bangladesh’s monsoon brings humidity, storms and unstable voltage, all of which can harm home appliances. A few habits will protect your investment.
Use voltage protection
Connect refrigerators, televisions and computers through a quality stabiliser or surge protector. Unplug sensitive devices during heavy thunderstorms.
Keep appliances dry
Do not place appliances near open windows or damp walls. Wipe moisture off from the outside regularly and keep plugs and sockets dry.
Let air circulate
Leave a gap behind refrigerators and washing machines for ventilation. Keep the washing machine door slightly open after use to prevent mould and odours.
Clean filters
Dust and damp make filters clog faster. Clean vacuum cleaner, air conditioner and fan filters more often during the rainy season.
Handle small appliances with care
- Dry blenders, kettles and irons completely before storing.
- Store them in a ventilated, dry cupboard.
- Never use appliances with wet hands or a damaged cord.
If an appliance gets wet, switch it off at the mains and have it checked before use. For help with replacements, see our shop.
